1. Blindness and eye strain
A study that was conducted in 2014 showed that a particular wavelength of light emitted by the smartphones is very toxic and dangerous to the back of our eyes. The blue-violet frequency is particularly prevalent in smartphone screens. The over-exposure to this light puts people at greater risk for macular degeneration, which can ultimately cause blindness.
Eye strain is another effect of over-using the smartphone. While you’re on the smartphone, you over-use the muscles of your eyes when focusing. This results in the appearance of headaches. Also, your eyes will become dry because you will blink less as you will focus on playing and doing other activities on the smart device.
2. Loss of hearing
A lot of people listen to music on their smartphones when they workout, when they go for walks, or when they work. The loud noises will damage the tiny hairs in the inner ear, making them vibrate according to the sounds, and transmitting chemical signals through nerves to the brain. If you expose these hairs to loud noises, you will damage their ability to pick up sound vibrations. This will result in loss of hearing over time. 3. Sleep deprivation
The blue-violet light that comes from the smartphone will ultimately wreak havoc on your sleep patterns. The blue light tends to ward off the production of melatonin, which is the key that starts the engine for sleep. Therefore, if you sit on your smartphone when you’re in your bed, don’t be surprised by the fact that you find it impossible to fall asleep. Also, the fact that you’re not allowing your brain to take a break and you’re stimulating it by using the smartphone will lead to sleep deprivation as well.
